March Madness finished up last night with an epic buzzer beating win for the ages.
In the last 10 seconds or so, the UNC Tarheels drew up a play to get the ball into their best player’s hands and give them a shot to sink a 3 pointer to send the National Championship game into overtime.
Marcus Paige hit an absurd shot to tie the game with 4.7 seconds left.
Villinova called time out. During this time out Jay Wright, the head coach for Villanova drew up a play that will live for all eternity (especially for Nova fans).
Here’s the last 4.7 second.
Villanova drew up a play to get the ball in the hands of their best player with a chance to win the game.
Do you put the ball in the hands of the best player in your business?
When the game is on the line, you definitely want your best player to take the last shot. The same goes for your business. When you need to generate new business, don’t you want the best campaign taking the proverbial last shot? You didn’t see Coach Wright looking for one of his benchwarmers to take the last shot. Why would you want one of your benchwarming campaigns to also take the “last shot” for your business.
In fact, I would make the case that you probably have a campaign that is converting well, but you choose to spread your resources around to building a new website, Tweets, Facebook updates, Snapchats, Linkedin updates, learning about SEO, blogging, networking, etc etc etc.
And I’ll say again…
you probably have ONE campaign or funnel that could take your business to the next level if you just focused on trying to figure out what that campaign was and how you could execute it.
As marketers and business owners, we hear about all these shiny objects and what we are “suppose” to be doing. So, we get to work rebuilding our website, writing blogs, keeping up with search engines, doing social media, updating our branding, etc.
I’ve found that if you ask a business WHY they do all these things, they ALL have the same answer.
To get more business. Duh!
Well, I’m going to say that all those marketing tactics are really just taking your eye off the ONE thing that can transform your business and that is building a sales funnel that generates leads. How do you get more business? By getting more leads. How do you get more leads? By consolidating a powerful message and get that message in front of your target market.
I’ll challenge you.
What is your ONE message you can take to the market place.
